Apple Intelligence will change to opt-out in the n.3 OS releases

According to 9to5 Mac, the next releases of Apple OS’s will default to having Apple Intelligence on (on devices supporting Apple Intelligence).

Since the software cannot tell whether Apple Intelligence not being on is due to user neglect or a willful choice, I believe the releases will turn it on for all users, with a user responsible for turning it off if they don’t want it.

This was also reported by Jason Cross @ MacWorld, who pointed out that AI is still clearly labeled “BETA” at the top of its Settings screen, and that forcing users to opt-out of beta software “feels premature.”

That could be one word for it.

Seems like a managing-expectations move to me, just like how Gmail was a “beta” product for years after its widespread availability.

Can’t bring myself to call it “intelligence”… it seems so lame!

Is there any way to keep it from consuming on board storage until I DO want it?

If you want to see examples of how Apple Intelligence makes Siri worse, have a fun read, and learn more about the North Dakota High School Basketball Championships than you ever wanted to know ( unless you or your child went to high school in North Dakota), see John Gruber’s write-up:

Paul Kafasis of Rogue Amoeba started the inquiry off with this:

Be sure to read the footnotes for both articles (especially Foot 4 of Gruber’s article).

accidentally downloaded their “clean up” plugin for macos photos and have been searching since for a way to delete and disable the hideous thing. such an incompetent feature and, like most artificial idiocy software, so annoyingly sure of itself.
