In a somewhat unusual focus on future app upgrades, Apple announced that its Apple Creator Studio subscription bundle of creative apps will be updated in November with expanded creation tools and new intelligence features. Highlights include built-in MotionVFX video effects in Final Cut Pro for Mac, a text-prompted generative fill feature in Pixelmator Pro, and an enhanced Stem Splitter in Logic Pro for separating drum sounds. In addition to these three apps, Apple Creator Studio also includes Motion, Compressor, MainStage, plus the iWork apps: Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. Available to download on the App Store, all updates will be free for current Apple Creator Studio subscribers.

Bringing the Effects In-House

With MotionVFX professional video effects integrated directly into Final Cut Pro for Mac, Apple Creator Studio subscribers will gain native access to thousands of elements, including templates with unique themes, stylish graphics, titles, and transitions, plus tools for rotoscoping, tracking, and color grading.

MotionVFX in Final Cut Pro

For those in the video editing sphere, MotionVFX’s integration into Final Cut Pro didn’t come out of the blue. When Apple acquired the Poland-based developer of plug-ins, visual effects, and motion graphics tools back in March 2026, news outlets noted that the move would likely help Apple compete with Adobe Premiere Pro, which had added a library of effects, transitions, and animations after Adobe acquired the Dutch video-editing software firm Film Impact in September 2025. From a head-to-head perspective, the addition of MotionVFX helps improve the feature parity between Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro, while giving Apple a leg up with Final Cut Pro included in the Apple Creator Studio annual subscription price of $129 versus Adobe Premiere Pro’s $263.88 annual subscription (or $779.88 annually for the whole Creative Cloud Pro kit and caboodle.

Final Cut Pro also gains access to stock video assets, photos, and backgrounds in Apple’s curated Content Hub, adds support for opening any image from the timeline directly in Pixelmator Pro for editing with changes automatically saved back to the project, and introduces workflow improvements such as more keyframe easing options for finer animation control and the ability to disconnect clips from the primary storyline to place them anywhere on the timeline.

Motion, Apple’s tool for creating cinematic 2D and 3D titles and transitions, also gets a built-in set of MotionVFX plug-ins for cinematic color grading, a new 3D camera tracking feature, a new Displacement filter, and the ability to send images round-trip to Pixelmator Pro. Finally, Apple’s Compressor video conversion app adds support for encoding Cinematic mode video recorded on iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

Filling in the Gaps, Generatively

Catching up to Adobe Photoshop’s AI-powered Generative Fill feature, Pixelmator Pro introduces the Generate Fill tool, which enables you to edit part of an image using natural language—simply circle an area and describe the change you want to see. You can also use selection tools like Free Selection, Quick Selection, or Magnetic Selection for more precise control. Generate Fill automatically matches the lighting, perspective, and texture of the surrounding environment, and you can merge generated elements into existing layers or insert them as new layers with intelligent masking for continued refinement.

Breaking Down the Funky Drummer

Logic Pro gets a new intelligent assistant powered by a combination of Apple-built and third-party AI models that helps you navigate production workflows, start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt, or refine an active project. This feature will be available only for Mac users (using an Apple Intelligence-capable Mac), only in US English, and it requires macOS 27 Golden Gate or later.

In addition, Logic Pro’s Stem Splitter, which can separate vocals and individual instruments from a multitrack mix, now lets you isolate, replace, or rebalance drum parts without needing the original multitracks. The Browser is updated with an on-device audio analysis tool that automatically analyzes, classifies, and tags added sounds so you can search your entire collection or drag in a loop to surface matching audio. Additionally, the Browser has been redesigned for more intuitive sound selection with centralized loops, instruments, and effect patches, and it offers native access to the royalty-free Splice sample library. (Apple’s press release doesn’t go into detail about the Splice integration, and it’s yet unclear how much of the library is included or whether access requires a paid Splice account.)

The update also gets a new Liquid Glass-forward design featuring translucent surfaces and deeper contrast that highlight waveforms and tracks, provides access to a new Producer Pack from modern salsa legend Sergio George featuring his signature piano sound and authentic Latin jazz and salsa loops, and adds a Voice Memo Studio Sound feature that can reduce room ambiance and background noise in recordings captured on supported iPhone models.

Opening the Office Doors to AI Agents

Apple Creator Studio brings new intelligence features to Keynote, Pages, and Numbers for Apple Creator Studio subscribers, including a native AI assistant built on Apple models and OpenAI. With Model Context Protocol (MCP) support currently in beta, the assistant lets external AI agents and tools read content, make edits, and run automated actions directly in the apps. The assistant understands document context to help you design and animate slides in Keynote, draft and restructure written content in Pages, and calculate, visualize, and organize data in Numbers, including building custom tables using world knowledge. To use the assistant in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers (available in US English only), you’ll need an Apple Intelligence-capable device running macOS 27, iOS 27, or iPadOS 27 or later.

Keynote also introduces support for Keynote Interchange Format (.keyx), “an open JSON-based bundle file format designed to be readable and accessible to external tools, developer workflows, and AI agents.” Why would you want that? John Gruber at Daring Fireball pointed to a LinkedIn post from Jesse Bunch, engineering manager for productivity apps at Apple, that adds a bit more context:

And an open-source format for Keynote (and Python library!) so you can create Keynote documents programmatically on any platform.

Finally, subscribers also gain access to the Content Hub for adding visuals to presentations, reports, and spreadsheets, plus a new collection of professionally designed templates and themes.

Freeform will also receive added text styles, custom and preset board background colors, and the ability to edit images directly in Pixelmator Pro and generate editable shapes from text descriptions (the latter two features coming in a December release).

Pricing and Feature Parity

These updates focus squarely on the Apple Creator Studio subscription bundle, which costs $12.99 per month or $129 per year and lets up to six family members share all apps and included content with Family Sharing turned on. College students and educators can qualify for a discounted subscription—$2.99 per month or $29.99 annually. (Apple no longer sells its $199.99 Pro Apps Bundle for Education, which included Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage.) All apps are available for both the Mac and iPad.

Apple will continue to sell one-time-purchase versions of the audio and video production apps for the Mac—Final Cut Pro ($299.99), Logic Pro ($199.99), Pixelmator Pro ($49.99), Motion ($49.99), Compressor ($49.99), and MainStage ($29.99)—but iPad apps for Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Pixelmator Pro are only available through the Apple Creator Studio subscription. (Motion, Compressor, and MainStage are only available for Mac.)

As we noted earlier this year when Apple Creator Studio was announced (see “Apple Bundles Pro Apps into New Creator Studio Subscription,” 15 January 2026), Apple said that both Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro would miss out on “premium content” going forward, and that stance should continue (though it’s not explicitly stated in the press release) with Final Cut Pro’s integration of MotionVFX and Pixelmator’s Generate Fill feature. Apple also notes in the FAQ section on the Logic Pro product page that “Logic Pro and MainStage (will) have all the same features whether they are subscription or one-time-purchase versions.”

Free versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform remain available and are included with every new iPhone, Mac, and iPad. However, those free versions will not include the beta AI assistant, widening the gap between the free and Creator Studio versions.
