26 is running behind 18 but not by that much.

Only 2% behind iOS 17 two years ago on almost the same date. Are people updating to iOS 26? Here's Apple's official data - 9to5Mac
Of course this is likely because the vast majority of users have upgrades installed automatically when Apple pushes it.
Dont forget another reason that’s hiding how few people have upgraded is the vast number of new phones etc sold last QTR. They all come with v26 installed and you cannot downgrade.
i wonder if anyone can get a count of how many people have followed guides to turn off the settings in Accessibility?
That would be true for the previous OS generation as well, so the comparison holds that 26 is not that far behind in adoption rate.
I am one of those people – I’ve never seen any response to an Apple OS upgrade like what we’ve seen with OS26, and it’s put me off. However, my partner somehow upgraded on her phone and she says she doesn’t mind it (I had to ask her, it wasn’t anything she felt she needed to mention, that is, it wasn’t really a notable event to her). Both my phone and my desktop keep asking me to do it and one day I will be tired and I’ll hit the wrong button, and eventually I’ll get worried about compatibilities and security upgrades (even if I don’t actually need to worry about such things because everything might be fine with the previous version). (To be clear, I’m not saying I’m right or wrong, or that anyone else is wrong, it’s just my personal approach and set of feelings about the whole thing at the moment. My phone and my desktop are far too important in both life and work, as tools with known and practiced interfaces, to muck about with too much. I am very much an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of person.)

These stats would be much more interesting if Apple left folks with an option to downgrade iOS like on macOS. Perhaps they’re afraid of that answer.
