What about trying iPadOS 18 Beta - can it hurt my other synced devices?

I was reading about the public iPadOS 18 Beta here:

There are some features I’d like to try - like seeing reminders in calendars. I rarely use my iPad, so I figure not much harm if something goes wrong on that device.

But… It mentions big changes to Photos and Messages. And so I wonder - if there are remaining bugs, can they get synced via iCloud to my iPhone and/or Mac causing problems? Or is that not really a concern?

It definitely could be a concern. I haven’t seen any discussion of changes that would affect iCloud, but there have been iCloud-related problems in the past; hence my warning about this in:

I can dedicate the iPad for testing. I don’t do anything important on it and, in fact, rarely use it. But if something I do in iPadOS 18 ends up causing a problem indirectly because of data synced to my iPhone or Mac, that could be a problem.

I see you have this warning in there though. I’ll wait.

Also, consider not connecting your primary iCloud account with the betas to avoid bugs that might cause synchronization or other upstream problems. You wouldn’t want beta iCloud Drive code to corrupt important data you use on your everyday devices.

If I remember right, I think there were people whose iCloud Photo Library was so messed up that they lost their complete library.

Yep. Definitely waiting.
