VMware Fusion 25 still can't check for updates

VMware Fusion 13.6.4 was just updated to 25H2. They’re changing to a new model where they only update it twice a year. “25H2” means 2025, 2nd half of the year.

The new version still can’t check for updates. But at least you now know that once an update comes out for H1 or H2 in a year, no need to manually check for updates until the next half-year.

I assume, however, that this semi-annual schedule is for feature updates. I hope they will deliver bug fixes and security updates as soon as they are developed and tested.

Broadcom in all likelihood will not return in-product updates to the desktop hypervisor (Fusion and Workstation) products. They have indicated that they’re seeing how they can return some kind of notification of new versions to the product under the constraints imposed by their policies.

My guess is as well that if a high priority security vulnerability is found in Fusion we’ll see an “out of normal 6 month schedule” update to address it. Until they get some kind of in-product notification working you’ll still need to keep you ears to the ground for a new Fusion update whenever Broadcom releases a security advisory.
