TextEdit won't show full width (horizontal scrollbar)

iMac 24" M4 and MacBook Pro M3 Pro, both running MacOS 26.3 and TextEdit v1.20 (415) dated 2/4/26

TextEdit refuses to show full width no matter how wide I drag the window. When opening a new window in TextEdit, there’s always a horizontal scrollbar (centered), and on opening an existing file, some text lines are cut off at either the beginning or the end, depending on the position of the scrollbar (it’s centered upon opening). Has anyone else seen this? Fix/work-around/suggestions?

But wait…there’s more! This view of the page clearly shows one bullet per line:

Yet the print preview and the printout itself show double bullets:

Anyone else seeing this?

Perplexity.ai answered that question for me: Toggling the ruler off (⌘R) “fixed” it for the moment.
