I don’t receive notifications for any of the email messages that I receive to my various accounts, and that’s a good thing. However, throughout the day I receive a single notification and I’m trying to figure out how and why. Anytime someone attempts to SSH into my server from an unauthorized account, the server sends an email to my gmail account, and I get a distinctive “ding” and a pop-up alert on my watch, iPhone, iPad, and Macs. This is the only message that causes this notification, and I can’t find the setting for it, so I can disable it. I’ve double checked and I don’t have any Rules in Mail that are causing this.
Any other thoughts or suggestions on how I’ve configured this single email message notification?
Are you sure it is a mail notification and not a google app (gmail.app or google.app) making the ping? My google apps make pings sometimes though I have Apple’s sound turned off.
Google is the evil empire, and I never install any of their software on my devices. And because the email account is owned by Google, I don’t use it for much. So, no google app is causing the “ding.”
Is the sender address a VIP? How about thread notifications? Perhaps the message keeps being identified as a thread, in which case go to Mail notifications in Settings, scroll down, choose to Customise, and see what you have set for Thread Notifications.
