Apple has released Safari 18.2 for macOS 14 Sonoma and macOS 13 Ventura to fix five security vulnerabilities (including four WebKit-related issues that fend off maliciously crafted web content). When Safari 18 was released in September, the app gained several new features, including a redesigned Reader, the Distraction Control feature that can hide items on a Web page to improve focus while browsing, a Video Viewer mode that expands video to the size of the window and provides a picture-in-picture option, and the Highlights feature that detects relevant information from a Web page (such as a map location or business hours; see below) and provides those highlights after clicking the Page Menu icon in the address bar. The update is available via System Settings > General > Software Update. (Free, release notes, macOS 13+)

does anyone know how to apply exceptions to the “https by default” setting? my photoblog is running on an ancient movable type instance that is incapable of https. safari’s forcing it to https breaks things because links to the stylesheet and other cruft are http only.
