Replace default Menu Command for SEND in Messages app

On MacOS Sequoia 15.3.2, in the Messages.app I’m not able to successfully replace the menu command Edit->Send Message keyboard shortcut to deactivate the default RETURN key command.
(I want to stop prematurely sending messages when I’m typing on my Mac’s keyboard and I accidentally hit the Return key when I’m only wanting to type an Apostrophe).
In the past I had set COMMAND+RETURN and it shows in the dropdown menu as such, and it works to send a message, but it does not stop the default from also working.
I’m using Apple native software, and changing the setting via System Settings> Keyboard> Keyboard Shortcuts…> App Shortcuts> and then selecting the Messages.app via the + sign and using the menu command Edit ->Send Message with the keyboard shortcut.
I’ve even tried SHIFT+CONTROL+OPTION+COMMAND+D (so as not to clash with an existing keyboard shortcut), but that does not even change the menu icon. (see screenshot Send Message. (I’ve tried re-starts as well).

Perhaps it is one of those menu items that cannot be changed?
Can anyone assist with a solution to stop the default send command (which does not include a 3rd party application)? :grinning:
Bonus question … why is there no SEND button for the Messages.app on the Mac like there is in iOS? (and WhatsApp on the Mac)?
