I have three monitors connected to my Mac Studio M1 Max, two of which are connected via Thunderbolt and one via HDMI. The HDMI monitor is an Alienware AW3418DW which has HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
For reasons unknown to me, after working fine for many months, this monitor has started having great difficulty waking from monitor sleep or computer sleep. Multiple attempts to wake the monitor are now usually required to bring the display to life. Even powering the monitor down and back up again is not a sure thing.
I would like to purchase a USB-C to DisplayPort cable to see if using a different output on the Mac and input port on the monitor will rectify this issue. Starting my learning curve via Amazon has quickly revealed my lack of knowledge for what I really need.
So, any recommendations for a cable that is known to work?
I bought this cable about 10 months ago to connect my Mac Studio to a Dell U2723QE monitor. I’ve had no issues. On the Mac Studio side, I am using a Thunderbolt 4 port.
Does your Dell monitor have a camera or other that requires a signal to go from the monitor back to Mac? While my monitor doesn’t, I’m thinking that the purchase of a cable that works both ways would be good value for any possible future uses.
I’m using this one between a Dell and an M4 mini. There was something I needed to do to make it work, I found the tip in one of the top reviews. I bought this in early October based on a conversation on tidbits about the Dell going black now and then, and this seems to affect it.
I don’t have a webcam on the monitor. HDMI and Dataport only control the monitor and cannot send non-display-related information back to the computer. Dell monitors that include webcams also have a USB port and an appropriate cable (usually USB-A to USB-C) to support the webcam.
I’ve read every review and must have missed something that looked like a tip to make the Cable Matters cable work properly. If you remember what that tip was, please post! :-)
