Has anyone noticed that recently, pasting even a paragraph from Word into Mac Mail brings along many dozens of lines of formatting code, plus other glitches? This has worked seamlessly for as long as I can remember and now it suddenly doesn’t. Anyone found a remedy?
I don’t normally use Mail, but I fired it up and tried pasting a paragraph from a formatted Word document (Word 365, latest version).
It appeared in Mail pretty much exactly as it did in Word. When I tried the Mail “remove style” command, it reverted to the base font and size but maintained bold and underline elements.
I’m not seeing formatting code.
Is it possible you are viewing your Word document in “Web Layout” format?
Plain text mail compose set vs. rich text needed?
I always use print format in Word. I was going to post a sample but somehow it’s working properly today, which wasn’t the case the last few times I tried. I’ve not changed anything. Sorry to bother everyone…
Don’t ya just hate it when that happens? No worries.
I have Pure Paste installed on my Mac. It strips all formatting from copied text. It is easy to turn off and on via the Menu Bar.
I have always copied, then pasted into BBedit to remove the formatting, then copied again and pasted to where I was going.
I have just downloaded the app, his will save me steps…
From one of Microsoft’s ‘Tips Of The Day’ that used to pop up when the (much) older versions of Word, Excel or PowerPoint were first launched, giving tips on how to use the software more efficiently (e.g., suggestions on formatting, how to use menus, etc.), and I quote verbatim from Microsoft:
“Things that go away by themselves can come back by themselves.”
I was shocked when I read it, but that’s what it actually said so I captured it. This really instills confidence in Microsoft applications, doesn’t it?
