I have my own domain hosted by Apple via my @me.com address; I’m using Apple Mail. I also have a Gmail account, which for numerous reasons I don’t want to use actively.
Lately, my outgoing mail still shows my domain as the from address:
but it goes out via Gmail instead of Apple. I have my domain set as the default for new mail:
and my SMTP server set for iCloud:
How can I stop my outgoing mail from going via Gmail and not using my domain (or me.com) instead? It used to work as expected…
I’m afraid I can’t offer and answer but I get incredibly frustrated with a similar happening in Apple Mail.
I send an email to someone from my iCloud account and they reply. All fine, but when I reply to their reply, it sends from my Exchange account - totally ignoring my iCloud account. Very, very annoying and I’d love to have a solution. I have to disable the Exchange account for it to work properly.
If you normally use All Inboxes, you might have the same problem. What address are they replying to the first time? Apple doesn’t make it obvious (they love to hide things from us). Your response will (theoretically) come from the same address they sent to.
Do you have more than one active account? I’m guessing there’s an active Gmail account.
In the options for the Gmail account, in Account Information, click on the combo control for Email Address. Does it have just the Gmail address, or does it also have the gib@gibhenry.com address?
If so, that may be it. Composing > Addressing > Send new messages from is selecting an account. If gib@gibhenry.com is in the email address list for the Gmail account, it can select it.
I have also had the problem of finding Apple Mail sending outgoing from a gmail account when I wanting to send it from my personal account. However, when I checked today (I’m on Sequoia 15.7.1) with the Account information set to send from my personal account, that’s were it goes; it does not go from a Gmail account. I think the most likely explanation for Apple Mail sending to your Gmail account is that you were replying to an earlier mail that had been sent from the Google account.
However, I also have had odd experiences when I am using Firefox and find that that whatever web site I am on thinks I am using a gmail account that is open in another Firefox tab or window. It’s easy to leave a Gmail account open in a browser if you’re careless about shutting down everything, and I see gmail pushing a lot to “sign in on Google” when it’s unnecessary. Maybe that’s what is happening.
It had both! So I eliminated the gh.com address from the combo box. Still, Apple Mail should honor my default or chosen outgoing address. This was a relatively recent problem, since maybe MacOS 15.5 or .6.
I tested it by sending, and then replying to the sent email, using yet another account, and the reply arrived in the gh.com mailbox as it should. Thank you for that suggestion; I’d never have found that one; it’s been driving me nuts!
