I am getting flooded with messages about my email. My original email (tidbits@paulc.com, my own domain) worked just fine for years until 4/28/25. I have verified it as correct at least half a dozen times… i.e., I can send mail to it and get the mail delivered. A few months back, I THOUGHT I had changed it to another one, but after digging around, I see it wasn’t changed. Pretty sure I went through the process. So I again tried to change that email BUT it seems I can not change it because “Email can be updated from authentication provider..” I have no idea what that means, but I have no ability to actually change that email.
If someone would send a direct email, not through your system, you may see the address as correct. My suspicion is the mail is dying inside your system. Not sure what to do now…
We were discussing this privately back in December. The problem is that @tidbits41’s ISP marks email from TidBITS Talk as spam, and Discourse responds back to the error message the ISP sends. I’ve reset the bounce score again just now, so it will stop briefly but likely start up again.
In the last back-and-forth, we were discussing changing the email address, which has to be done on the TidBITS site (Edit Profile at https://tidbits.com/membership/) since that’s the source of all account-related details at Discourse.
If it’s to make a difference, the new address has to be at a different provider, like iCloud or Gmail or Fastmail.
Yes, I had that trouble with my personal email address (hosted at hover.com). TidBITS email got bounced without me ever knowing it had come in (ie, it didn’t appear in my spam folder). Talking to tech support over there took some pressing, but I think that TidBITS was on a blacklist they used and thus never made it to me. The first time, they whitelisted it and TidBITS mail came through for awhile but then it went back to bouncing. So I switched to a gmail address and that’s been fine.
