PDF editing app adds a new home screen and improves visibility of export options. ($179.99 new, free update, 561.2 MB, macOS 10.14+)

They say Nitro PDF Pen 13 will continue to work. That one is the the old Smile app. It work beautifully. $180 is a little pricey and support is all but friendly

Yeah, I’m disappointed in Nitro’s stewardship of PDFpen. @agen and I don’t plan to cover any more updates to Nitro PDF Pro because it’s not that interesting when you combine the price and poor support.

I emailed them today about the cost of an upgrade from version 13. I did get a reply. Here is what they said:

I trust you are doing well and thank you for contacting Nitro.

I understand you have a Nitro PDF Pro for Mac version 13 license and would like to upgrade it to version 14.
Unfortunately, Nitro no longer offers upgrades from Nitro PDF Pro 13 for Mac as Nitro slowly transitions to a subscription model.

Nitro Pro 14 (for Mac) is available as a subscription-based application.
It is part of the Nitro Pro subscription bundle detailed in the link below and is also available via the App Store.

Tungsten Automation publishes Power PDF 5 for the Mac after the purchased Kolfax. It is $129. I contacted them twice about an upgrade license twice over several weeks but never received a reply. I also have a license for the latest Kofax version and it is essentially identical to Nitro’s. Being caught between a rock and a hard spot with Nitro statement that all products are going subscription I am reluctantly likely to purchase Power PDF 5 as the lesser of two evils as I know of no better option and subscription apps conflict with my values.
