Mimestream 1.9.15

Originally published at: Mimestream 1.9.15 - TidBITS

Mimestream has released version 1.9.15 of its Gmail-specific email app with a few adjustments to the Private Push beta notification feature. The update resolves an issue that caused Private Push to sometimes stop working, uses IMAP connections as a fallback for push if the Private Push service is unavailable, and prevents reconnection stampedes when the Private Push service closes a connection. Mimestream also adds support for the new macOS 26 Tahoe Photos picker in the compose window, fixes a bug that caused attachments to be corrupted or erased after rearranging them in the compose header, addresses a problem where composing new messages could prompt a Resource Unavailable error when syncing with Gmail, adds a menu icon to Open With in Tahoe, and ensures the search mode progress spinner updates correctly. ($49.99 annual subscription, 12.5 MB, release notes, macOS 12+)

Just curious. I had stopped using Mimestream a few years ago because their image annotation was not as good at regular Apple Mail. But at that time they said they were planning to support other email services besides Gmail. I know they went with yearly subscription, but did they give up supporting other email services?

Currently I use Apple Mail for everything and, along with MsgFiler for filing, it’s ok. Also, I set up Profiles in Google Chrome, so in each profile I can easily get directly to gmail.com for that Gmail account if need be.

Anyway, just curious because I always liked the Gmail keyboard shortcuts and the labeling system.

Thanks.

Mimestream is still limited to Gmail, but they’re continuing to work on adding IMAP support.

Interesting. Then it’s obvious that they are not accessing GMail via its IMAP interface.

I guess they are instead using GMail’s REST API (or one of Google’s client libraries that wrap this API) for it’s interface to the back-end.

Yes, Mimestream absolutely uses the Gmail API, which is why it can do things like work with filters.
