Messages Fail On Macs Work Fine on iPhone

I use Messages on my two Macs and my iPhone 16. On all three platforms I can receive text messages. But on the Macs now when I attempt to send a text message, it fails (“Not Delivered”). This issue has persisted for several days. I just checked, and when sending to another Apple device (e.g., iPhone) it works - so it is just the SMS recipients that are failing.

I have confirmed that Messages is handled in my iCloud+ account and the proper email addresses and phone number are set to send messages. Any idea of what is going on and how to fix this?

The first thing I would check is whether the setting on your iPhone check settings / apps / messages / text messaging forwarding has your mac listed as approved for text messaging.

Thanks Doug. I discovered that (an Apple Support article mentions it) - and it was the problem. That option didn’t even appear - I had to turn off Messages and then start it up and log into my account. Then the menu to select the Macs appears. This just showed up recently and I suspect one of the recent Mac OS updates changed something.
