My late 2017 MBP running latest Mojave had only the background screen and top menu. No desktop items or dock. Could not click on anything and get a reaction. A manual restart fixed it but this is the first I’ve experienced something like this. Anyone else seen this?
Try an SMC reset. I have to do this with my 2015 Macbook every few months. Cosmic rays?!
