Apple has updated Logic Pro to version 12, introducing a new AI Session Player to the professional audio app, which is now part of Apple Creator Studio (see “Apple Bundles Pro Apps into New Creator Studio Subscription,” 15 January 2026). The new Synth Player enables you to generate dynamic synth performances that play notes and manipulate instruments. The AI Session Players can access the new Chord ID feature to identify chords from any part of a song and have Session Players automatically follow along. The release also brings an expanding collection of premium sound packs in the new Sound Library, adds compatibility with recordings in Spatial Audio captured on iPhone, allows you to Copy/Paste/Clear individual pages in long Step Sequencer Patterns, adds support for multitrack selections in the Track Inspector, updates the contextual menu for chords to offer options to transpose + or – 1 semitone, makes Apple Intelligence Writing Tools available in Mixer Track notes in the Notepad, ensures Electronic Drummer now follows chords more accurately, and requires macOS 15.6 Sequoia or later. Logic Pro 12 is included with the Apple Creator Studio subscription ($12.99 per month or $129 per year) or can be purchased as a standalone app for $199.99. ($199.99 new in the Mac App Store, free update, 2.68 GB, release notes, macOS 13.5+)
Logic Pro 12 is quite nifty - the chord ID thing is great - and the session player plugins are cool, and I’m slowly checking out this kind of sparse upgrade (the Sound Library is very EDM based and seems to be a huge focus for Apple, which I don’t quite get - it should be a developer opportunity) . Apple wrapped up a bunch of custom sounds into a library.bundle. I did have several gigabytes of custom Sampler instruments that didn’t cross over to this library i and I have no way to import them. I ave an open ticket at Apple. That - btw, is disappointing. I dropped out of Beta testing Logic bc it killed production momentum, I expect their products not to have such an obvious problem. (My custom sounds, samples, certain plugins are part of MY SOUND- they are my band!) I should note that a VERSION update like this -AUTOinstalled with no notification - now, I like my apps updated but this is the first time I had 0 notification of release - no Email, no fanfare…nada (I don’t hang out in LP forms too much either) I’m turning off Auto update for apps, there should be an option to consider Auto updating a VERSION (from say, 11.2 to 12) update esp if fundamental structure change occurs (like something that lived in Application Support moves to your general (in this case, Music) folder hierarchy.
