iPhone mirroring in Sequoia

iPhone mirroring is the best feature.

It could have been if it was available, but it is not in EU.

Itā€™s not working for me with my MacBook Air. Since my 16 pro arrives Friday, Iā€™ll wait until I try again.

I updated my M1 MBA to Sequoia and my iPhone 13 mini to iOS 18 without noticeable problems. It has been surprisingly fun and useful to tinker with the iPhone mirroring feature.

That said, I seem to be getting many more notifications of various kinds on both devices than usual. It hasnā€™t been too annoying yet, but it also hasnā€™t been particularly helpful, either.

Maybe it is time to move to Norwayā€¦

It would not work at all for me at first, but a couple of hours after install it succeeded. One thing to note is that if you set the prefs to connect automatically, your Mac screensaver will require a password immediately to deactivate. As I often accidentally move the cursor into the hot corner for the screensaver, Iā€™ve set it back to ā€œask every time.ā€

@adieb Might I humbly askā€¦ how so? I donā€™t doubt that weā€™ll all find a use or two for it eventually. Maybe Iā€™m lacking creativity but Iā€™ve yet to find value in it beyond ā€œHey, thatā€™s kind of coolā€. My Mac and iPhone already share the clipboard (a feature Iā€™ve loved for a while now) so drag-and-drop isnā€™t compelling (yet).

So I guess Iā€™ll ask everyone here on TidBITS Talk ā€“ how are you using it? I came to TidBITS Talk today precisely to find out!

Maybe we can keep adding to this thread as we discover uses for it.

Thanks @adieb, and everyone here.

Jeff

Sometimes I read questions people ask (on tidbits talk, for example) about how to do something on the iPhone while I am sitting on my Mac and my phone is in my pocket (or across the room, though thatā€™s rare) and I can check the actual steps to walk through the settings app, say, right from my Mac.

Also I have a few apps that are easier to use on my phone compared to their web sites but, again, so far thatā€™s rare.

For me thatā€™s pretty much it. Iā€™ve turned off notifications from my phone to my Mac myself.

This really helpful for ā€˜family and friendsā€™ remote support when sharing screens.

I like iPhone Mirroring. Good example of Appleā€™s integration strength.

For it to be truly useful to me, Iā€™d like to see two things added.

  • Support for bidirectional copy/paste
  • Access to Control Center

It doesnā€™t? Makes me care less that it insists on iCloud and 2-Factor.

I have no problem with bidirectional copy/paste. It works through the Universal clipboard, just as it does between a real iPhone and a Mac.

Didnā€™t work when I was testing it. Perhaps it requires Continuity. Iā€™m not inclined to turn that on.

Yes, Universal Clipboard requires that Continuity be turned on.

Iā€™ve used iPhone mirroring to AirDrop a photo from the phone to a Mac without picking up the phone. Handy!

The .1 upgrades to the current Apple OSs are dropping next week. According to 9to5Mac, the upgrade will add the ability to drag and drop files and photos directly between the mirrored iPhone and Mac. I think that Continuity will need to be enabled for this trick to work.
