My iMac has been unable to read and download photos from my iPhone 8+ via Image Capture lately. I was also getting a warning that an app called USB Server was out of date.
Responding to a Apple support suggestion, I updated the systems of both the iMac and the iPhone to their latest available versions, and now things are back to normal.
Something to try if you’re having similar problems.
