Hello guys, I hope you are doing well, I just deleted the garageband from my Mac, but it is not deleted completely. I still could see some files which were taking too much space, so I have deleted them. I’m not sure if there are some hidden files in other places or not. Please help me delete the garageband completely.
The good folks at MacPaw have a guide - https://macpaw.com/how-to/uninstall-garageband-from-mac
Can you delete it the way you might delete any other App Store application?
From the Launchpad (macOS 15 or older), click-and-hold on the icon until it starts to wiggle. Then click the “x” icon to delete it:
I know that macOS 26 doesn’t have Launchpad, but perhaps you can do this from the Spotlight Applications popup that (sort of) replaces it?
Update: Yes, this should work from macOS 26. See this article:
I don’t use GarageBand at the moment, but I recall that older versions could have optional multi-GB intrument packs (or whatever they were called). I don’t know if those would be deleted using the methods you mentioned. Worth double-checking if anyone tries it.
Last time I deleted it, I had to go hunting w/ FindAnyFile, but it wasn’t that onerous… ;~}
Yeah, you’re saying right.
I don’t want to use any third party app to do this.
The MacPaw article shows how to do this manually.
They also show how to use their app. But you can just delete the folders they list there.
I agree, but I think that older versions may have stored instrument collections somewhere else, maybe in the Documents folder or the Music folder. Of course, I may be wrong. It has been awhile since I was a heavy GarageBand user, and I don’t have an old system that I can check. In any case, it’s easy to check if someone has large files in those two locations. Just be careful, because the default location for GarageBand user files is/was in the GarageBand folder inside the Music folder.
Thank you guys for all your help and advice. I want to tell you that I was able to delete the garageband completely without installing any third party app with the help of a guide that I have found during my research. To delete the garageband files go to finder > library > audio, where we can see all the files.
Oh! I didn’t see that, I see they are pitching their app at the start so I thought they had mentioned the method to uninstall the garageband with their app only. I did not want to use any third party app to do it so skipped it. Sorry!
I didn’t get Find Any File to uninstall files, just to find them, and it’s very good at that. It’s just a perk that is useful for uninstall’s.
