Since I installed to Sequoia 15.1 on my M2 Mac mini the Podcast app has behaved strangely. Having listened to the last podcast in the queue I mark it as played then remove the download. But the next time I open the app it’s there again. When I look in Library/Containers/Podcasts>tmp the file has been re-downloaded. Deleting the tmp folder makes no difference as it’s recreated the next time the app runs.
Have others seen this?
I considered deleting the app but I can’t find a way to install a clean copy without reinstalling the whole OS.
Any suggestions?
Maybe locate the .plist file that should be associated with the Podcast app (if it exists) and delete it? It contains the Podcast preference and data settings and it might be corrupted.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple simply ignores user desires to clear out the unwanted files.
Thank’s but after I deleted two .plist files the problem returned. In Settings the option to delete played podcasts says it takes 24 hours so I’ll have to wait and see.
I don’t use podcasts, but two friends have mentioned similar issues. In other words, it may be an actual behavior bug and not something you can cure by deleting and reinstalling.
You might wanna consider using a third-party podcast app:
I watch several of Leo Laporte’s TWiT video podcasts but these are very large and would eat up the storage on my iPhone. My solution is to use two podcast apps. I watch the videos with the Podcast app on my Mac and subscribe to other podcasts with Overcast on my iPhone.
