How do I re(organize/sort/order) my iPhone’s Contacts’ details? For an example with a contact with its multiple phone numbers, addresses, etc. I want to be manually re(sort/arrange/order) them the way I want to see them in my view. This is in iPhones with iOS v18.5. From my quick Google searches, iPhone’s Contacts app doesn’t seem to have this option and requires manual duplicates, third parties, etc. which is tedious. :(
Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon.
Golly that seems like an obvious feature to have, I was so sure it was there I checked and didn’t find the little ‘grabber’ or ‘hamburger’ icon that indicates ability to reposition items vertically. (I haven’t used Contacts in years and thought I remembered this feature being there but…)
One somewhat tedious workaround might be, as it appears the labels to the left of the numbers and addresses can be changed, is to enter the data in the order you want, or add a number, copy-paste then delete the first one.
Still a bit disconcerted it’s not there after 18 iterations of OS.
This may not be the answer you desire as it touches internals of object data.
For the purpose of re-ordering entries to establish a preferred entry for a email, phone number, or street address, editing an exported vCard and reloading it may be useful. “type=pref” is a parameter of interest to some applications. Using a text editor to reorder the data and importing the resulting .vcf, at least on iCloud, results in a new reordered entry which may be kept as a replacement.
Your mileage will most certainly vary.
I use an app called Reorder It! (available on Mac and iOS) that mostly lets me do that. It does sometimes fail when you’ve got multiple entries for the same person from multiple sources (iCloud, Google, Exchange, etc.) that have been merged in the Contacts app. But it’s cheap enough that I’m okay with occasional failures.
Thanks everyone. I will go leave a feedback to Apple about this via/through its Feedback - iPhone - Apple web page. I doubt they will implement it especially in v26 prerelease that is around the corner. Also, not many users care for this idea I bet unless all of you want it too to leave feedbacks. ;)
