I have been subscribed to the “Mac-L Digest” mailing list for long, long years.
The Digest e-mail messages arrive every day. Each message is a collection of (short) e-mails contributed by various people. (It feels like a “TidBITS Talk of 50-years-ago,” sort of.)
Each of the DIGEST e-mail message body text begins with:
You are subscribed to the ‘Mac-L’ list as:
mkbnagata@xxx.xxxxx.ne.jp
To unsubscribe, send any message to: mailto:leave-mac-l@hades.listmoms.net?Subject=Gazelle
…be sure to put the word “Gazelle” in the Subject line.
Through these years, I’ve been gradually losing interest in Mac-L Digest (mainly because TidBITS Talk is much more valuable to me,) so in the last October, I decided to unsubscribe it.
Also, if you use Facebook, it appears that the admins are active at https://www.facebook.com/Listmoms/ , so you may be able to message them there if email doesn’t get through.
Thank you, josehill and Ron, for your suggestions. I tried to send mail to the following three addresses (the 2nd thanks to josehill, the 3rd thanks to Ron):
from my TWO addresses (@eonet.ne.jp and @gmail.com). All failed, causing Returned mail, each 24-hour-plus-a-few-minutes later after I sent the mail. (So both of the TWO servers waited for 24 hours each time.)
The recipient server did not accept our requests to connect. For more information,

[mail.vjs.org. 72.83.60.83: unable to read banner]
I don’t know what ‘BANNER’/’banner’ means, but I am guessing the mail server on the other side (72.83.60.8x) is not working any more (not too surprising after these 40 years…)
I also tried to open the link http://mail.vjs.org/ that was mentioned in Gmail’s Returned-mail. Safari opened a window tab, the progress bar stopped at one-tenth or so, and, after a long wait, Safari showed the “Can’t open the page” error.
I guess I have to give it up now. Thank you, everybody, for your interest.
From the list admins’ Facebook page, they recently upgraded some of their servers and have been adjusting some of their mail delivery settings, e.g., DMARC, so perhaps that is behind some of the issues. I asked someone to send them an FB message to let them know about this discussion thread. Maybe that will help.
Hi folks - some very nice (and smart!) person from this group contacted me at our Facebook page to alert me to this issue. FWIW, Gmail has recently become even more of a problem for us than it has been in the past, both rejecting messages going TO Gmail as well as failing to send messages to my site FROM Gmail. Not sure what’s up with that.
Either way, the recommendation to contact us via our FB page was definitely on target – that’s what it’s out there for.
Mark: I found your full email address and submitted an unsubscribe for you; you should receive a confirmation email from the server. Apologies for all of the difficulties you had trying to get yourself off the list!
Thank you for your message, and handling the problem for me. About an hour ago, I certainly received a “You’ve been removed from the Mac-L list“ message at my eonet.ne.jp address, and a “Goodbye from Mac-L!“ message at my gmail.com address.
Thank you, Vincent, for your hard work for all these long years, and thank you, josehill, for your kind help!
