Google Maps react to mouse and track pad with extreme changes

I have an Apple M3 Pro lap top. I migrated from a 2017 iMac and brought a problem from the iMac that involves the use of Google Maps that are included with many web sites. The problem I have is, extreme zooming in and out of and random changes to locations being viewed all because I move the mouse or the track pad. The problem doesn’t occur with Apple Maps and Google Maps does not seem to exist as a stand-a-lone program on the Mac OS. Apple Support believes this is a Google Maps problem but I’m not convinced and I am wondering if anyone experiences my issues with maps and charts that are in web sites such as Ventusky - Wind, Rain and Temperature Maps or DriveBC all of which act in a way that makes them nearly unusable.

I have tried to isolate possible software such as iStat Menu by deleting it and its hidden OS components but it didn’t fix the problem. I’m suspicious there is something hidden that is causing the mouse and track pad functions to act this way.

Any suggestions that would lead me to some software or setting that could remedy this will be appreciated.

What browsers have you tried? Does it behave any differently in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome/MS Edge?

I had not tried other browsers but I just used Chrome and there are no extreme movements for either the track pad nor the mouse. Why could this be? Safari is up to date.

I have a 2017 iMac running Ventura. I have never seen this behavior in Safari & Google Maps or Ventusky.

Google Maps reacts differently to gestures than one expects in macOS.
Try a 2-finger or 3-finger drag on Google Maps, or pinch gestures, and then try the same on Apple Maps. There is a bit of a learning curve.

So when you say “move,” are you just moving the cursor across the map, or do you have the mouse button (or track pad) pressed while you’re moving? The former shouldn’t cause any map movement at all; the latter is what I assume isn’t working the way you expect.

As others have reported, I can’t reproduce what you’re reporting on either mouse or trackpad, on Apple or Google maps, in either Safari or Arc. My suggestion would be (if you haven’t already tried it) to bring up System Settings, enter “mouse” in the search field, and go through each of the settings that appear to see if any look unusual.

I experience this, but I agree it’s a Google problem. Their interaction model is sadistic.

Move can be as simple a touching the mouse. Not pressing the mouse down to make it click.

Perhaps I should get my phone out and try to make a video of my experiences.

This has been going on for a very long time and I checked as many of the settings as I can find. I even spent time looking through the Library and inspecting anything that is older than 2020. I am unwilling to delete anything unless I am absolutely certain it’s the cause.

Is this an Apple Magic Mouse, which I have found to play havoc with maps and scroll bars? I love mine, but hate it at times.
