Getting rid of a menubar icon

What is this icon really for and how do I get rid of it? I don’t really need to play the last video again that is still open somewhere in another browser window.

(Ventura on a MBP)

Control Centre->Now Playing-> Don’t Show in Menu

many thanks @trilo
Control Centre was completely not on my radar.

Problem solved.

I’ll just chime in and say, uh, Apple, why is Menubar settings controlled under “Control Center”? Shouldn’t there be a Menubar section of System Settings? As many others have noted, System Settings is a confusing mess. At least one can search for the setting one is looking for, if you know what the setting is called, but so many sub-settings are in seemingly random locations.

Can you CMD-drag it off of the menu bar?

That usually works. But if you don’t know where the setting is that put it there, you may have to do a bit of research if you later decide you want to put it back.

@Shamino Problem already solved, see @trilo’s advice above, but I had tried CMD-drag and OPT-drag to no avail.
