forScore and sync

This is a pretty specialized topic, but I’m sure there are some in this community who have experience with forScore.

I have been using forScore for several years to organize my sheet music library on an iPad. I also have the MacOS and iOS apps installed. forScore ostensibly uses iCloud to sync its library between MacOS, iOS and iPadOS devices. Recently, however, syncing has gone haywire. Libraries on MacOS and iOS have different “scores” in the library, different setlists, and different music annotations, and I can’t seem to get the three to align. I can fallback to just using the iPad app which is generally the reference version of my music library, but I’d like to be able to do editing and organizing on my Mac.

I can’t associate this change of behavior with any Apple system updates.

On the Mac, in forScore I’ve tried turning sync off then on, and it appears to gather information then throws an error with the text “Syncing could not be enabled: 14”. If I “Reset sync data…” it appears to allow sync to be turned on but then syncing fails saying “File not found”, and turning sync off then on results in the “… : 14” error.

In iOS it appears that sync is working but the library is not updating to include new scores, setlists and annotations that have been made in iPadOS.

There is a reddit forScore group where syncing issues are discussed but it’s mostly just griping. The “support team” (the creator) at forScore has stopped answering questions about syncing, though an update to the software was recently released and automatically installed on all three OSs, indicating that active development continues.

  • Does anybody here have any knowledge about iCloud syncing across Apple OSs and what error “14” might mean?
  • Does anybody here have experience with forScore and might have suggestions for remediating this situation?
  • And, has anybody here moved to an alternative sheet music app such as MobileSheets or Music Sheet Reader and could make a recommendation for an app that might work across all 3 Apple OSs?

Sorry this is so long and thanks for any thoughts.

You might try deleting the app from the phone and iPad, then turn off sync on the Mac. Then turn it back on, give it some time, and then reinstall the app on one device, give it some time. If that works, then do the other. I’m not a forScore user, but have solved sync problems like this in the past.
