Noticed when I was about to check a book file I created with Affinity Publisher 2 (just to make sure it opened fine there after installing the new free Affinity combination app), that one or actually two of the fonts I had used had been removed from the computer completely after the Tahoe upgrade (not simply moved to Font disabled) and seems like Apple removed a long list of fonts – the fonts I got with a Dymo label writer were all removed for example. No warning or documentation on the part of Apple (as usual with important changes to the OS).
More concerning though is that when I tried to validate all the fonts (always install all in /Library/Fonts) was that it found 90 Fonts with serious errors and many minor errors (likely just duplicates or so). The problem is that there is no longer any way to find out what the warnings are about – you could always previously find an explanation (or sorts). Moreover, Apple suggested I remove a lot of Fonts that has been standard with the Mac since it more or less started, like Palatino … . Validating the font files directly also gave no hint, but contradictory information about the seriousness of the error … eh.
I got into this partly after having to restart my Mac as there was absolutely no way to get Spotlight to function at all in any way for local files before I restarted the Mac (then it started working again – no difference these days to Windows). Also tried to figure out how the damned (to put it diplomatically) backgrounds in Contacts could be removed – there is no way and no one seems know (reducing transparency as suggested doesn’t help). It takes longer time these days to find serious problems with upgrades … .
