Do You Use It? Apple's Weather app on the iPhone

I also use “Clear Outside”, it is really aimed at astronomers, but it provides you with tables of cloud prediction, rain prediction, wind prediction by hour for the forthcoming days so if you want to do something in the garden day or night I can really help with planning.

I use 4 apps and compare results
Apple weather
BBC Weather
AccuWeather
YR

Meteo France. Free on the App store.

I’ve voted for Apple Weather because I’ve was impressed by its accurate precipitation radar. I used to use WeerOnline exclusively but this app is becoming more and more buggy since a couple of years and I’ve been checking Apple Weather more and more during travels in Europe.

Another interesting question might be: how many weather apps do you have on your phone … I have 6 including Apple Weather. The others are Carrot, Clime, Hello Weather, UK Met Office, and Mercury.
I have a love/hate relationship with Carrot- sometimes I wish it was less customisable!
To anyone who hasn’t tried it, I suggest it is worth having a look at Clime:

I use Carrot because of I like the snark.

Windy (Premium), Weather Underground (PWS), Storm Radar, Hurricane Tracker.

I use Meteo Group WeatherPro; occasionally the UK Meterological Office weather app.

I use Meteo France ('cos we live in France!), Accuweather, Weather Pro, Met Office (UK), and Apple Weather. Then I choose the one that tells me what I want to hear

Dutch reader here. I use “Het Weer in Nederland” by Martijn de Meulder. Because it is local and has more features than Apple’s Weather. However, on my Apple Watch I use the complication from Apple because “Het Weer” has no complication (yet?) for it’s Watch app.

I use Carrot once or twice a day on my phone and the watch complication all the time.

I use Weatherbug and Wunderground pretty equally. I like Wunderground for it’s hyperlocal information gathering and customizability for other cities where friends are. I use it almost exclusively when traveling. Apple Weather is in my crusties folder, though it sounds like it’s been improved enough to justify giving it another look.

Weather isn’t nearly as good as Dark Sky was despite incorporating it, I use weather and occasionally carrot. Neither give me the accurate warning of approaching rain (Dark Sky was accurate to the minute!)

I mostly use the Australian Bureau of Meteorology app, but Apple Weather now claims to use the BoM as a data source, so I am experimenting with switching between the two. However, I have noticed that the two apps can have forecast maxima/minima that differ by a number of degrees C so there is clearly something else going on. I have also been seeing how accurate the precipitation alerts are for Apple Weather. So far I would give it a B grade.

I also use the Netatmo weather information, the app sources information from their weather station in my lounge and garden and many thousands of similar setups around the world, I note there are three users of Netatmo weather stations in Ithaca.

Mostly use Yr.no, but also have other apps when travelling like iLMeteo (Italy).

Apple’s weather app, surprisingly, produces different forecasts on two different (or even the same) iphones in the same place (!). I had this multiple times with relatives sitting next to me, with one phone predicting rain and the other doesn’t. I wonder if that is because we are based in different countries and thus use different data sources (servers). I believe we used the same app version.

Does anybody know?

I use Mercury Weather on my Lock Screen and page 1 of Home Screen. I like the hourly forecast graph with rain clues, and the weekly graph, also with rain clues. I do bike rides, so rain matters. Apple Weather and Weather Strip are on Page 2. I like Apple Weather’s line graphs and Weather Strip’s more comprehensive timelines for the coming week, all in one graph.

Living in the Midwest, where severe weather comes year-round and can take the form of tornadoes, derechos, blizzards, and extreme heat and cold warnings, I prefer to get a more localized forecast and conditions report than any national app can provide, including Apple’s Weather app. I rely on the weather app from one of the local TV stations, KCRG Weather, which includes all the usual features (hourly conditions, 9-day forecast, present and future radar, etc) and also video of severe weather updates and daily forecasts from the over-the-air station.

The survey did not allow for both Apple weather and third-party apps and so results will give a complete picture.

I am in Australia and so when in Australia I tend to use our Bureau of Metrology’s excellent app and service. When I am not in Australia, then I use either the Apple Weather or a country specific weather app. The survey misses this nuance.

I do not have a weather fixation and so really only need a weather app to see if I need to take an umbrella. For this purpose the Apple Weather app is ok.
