Display too big for MacBook Pro screen

When I updated from one of the last 16" Intel MacBook Pro to an M3 14" MacBook Pro last fall, I used the Migration Assistant. While everything seemed to go well, somehow the size of my Desktop has come to exceed that of the 14" computer’s physical display, so that the Menu Bar extends off both the left and right edges of the display. I can position the cursor next to the edge of the physical display to “Push” the material at the edge onto the visible screen, but it certainly makes working on a full size window difficult. I cannot find anything in System Settings that makes the physical and logical screen sizes match. I’m wondering if somehow the new computer “inherited” the pixel dimensions of the 16" MacBook Pro.

I’m speculating, but this sounds like what I see after I’ve mistakenly zoomed in a little, using the built-in accessibility feature, with “Zoom style” set to Full Screen.

Some details in Apple’s user guide here. To zoom out, depending on what settings you have enabled, you might need to press Option-Command-Minus Sign (-), or hold down a particular modifier key (I have control configured for this), place two fingers on the trackpad and move them downwards, or a three-finger double tap…

Fingers crossed that this helps.

Ashley, you can uncross your fingers now! Thanks so MUCH!

I’m puzzled, however, because I’ve never intentionally activated the Zoom feature, and it appears to require having the

System Settings>Accessibility>Zoom

window open to invoke the changes.

It activates and deactivates if you type CMD-Option-8, unless you explicitly disabled the Zoom keyboard shortcuts.

THAT explains it! If the “Zoom” keyboard shortcuts are enabled by default, I’m discussing Montana weather, and my digital memory (that’s finger flexes, not arabic numerals) is wanting, I might type Command-Option-8 instead of Shift-Option-8 while complaining about the temperature.
