I don’t usually share meeting announcements, but the Naples MacFriends User Group (NMUG) has one TidBITS readers might particularly enjoy. On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at 11:30 AM EDT, veteran tech journalist David Pogue will discuss his latest book, Apple: The First 50 Years. Released earlier this year to coincide with Apple’s 50th anniversary, the book chronicles Apple’s journey from its founding in 1976 through its golden anniversary, drawing on Pogue’s decades of industry access and insider interviews. You don’t need to be an NMUG member to attend, but you must register to receive the meeting link. NMUG will also raffle off 30 ebooks to attendees.

Worth a look. He’s a good speaker, and the subject matter should be interesting.

I remember David from NYMUG… he was our office manager. Cool guy.

I was sad when he discontinued his Missing Manual series for macOS. His explanations and instructions were clear and he did not take himself or his subject matter overly seriously.

Checked the book out from the library, and then bought it. Great read – highly recommended.

Thanks for the heads-up, @ace. It was a truly entertaining presentation by David Pogue. While getting ready for this meeitng I found David’s Substack ‘Pogue’s Posts’ where I especially enjoyed his post about seeing the total solar eclipse on a cruise with his son. His pictures of the eclipsed sunset are amazing!
