Is there a way for me to center the pic I use for my avatar? (I understand I can do it with other software but…)

Good, but that’s not what I was asking. Are you trying to center the avatar shown on this Web site, or the one used in the iCloud pane of System Preferences, or something else?

You can either use a Gravatar image or upload a photos, but since there are no controls for picking what portion of the image is used, you’ll need to make sure your face is centered appropriately in the actual photo.
