Can I delete everything connected with programs I do not use?
I never delete anything that says “com.apple.whatever”, unless somebody else tells me I can delete something specific. It would help if you knew which programs installed which application support items. the more familiar you are with your own system, the easier it is to not delete something you shouldn’t.
I’d look inside the folder to see which apps are resposible for most of storage used. For example, my two largest fsubolders (totalling over 130 GB) are associated with screensavers and consist of many small movies. By adjusting the settings for them (and possibly elimating one), I could regain that space, if I desired. It’s probably not worth worrying about items associated with trashed apps that use only a few megabytes or less.
Looks like I’ll better leave it. Logic and Garage Band alone account for about 100 GB. Lesson learned.
Two tools I lean on when doing spring cleaning on my Mac are Daisy Disk for locating the most significant targets in terms of space, and AppCleaner, which can delete an app you no longer want and all of its support files in …/Application Support and elsewhere.
You should see what file(s) are so big in Logic and Garage Band. Caches perhaps? If so, then maybe they can be purged?
I use CleanMyMac on a regular basis, so I think the caches have been taken care of.
