To this retired USAF member it is: Ching Chuan Kang Air Base, a former USAF base in the Republic of China near Taichung, Taiwan. It is still an ROCAF base. ![]()

The key text from Ric’s post:
Apple suggests possible workarounds, including freeing up more space on the device or deleting the update and re-downloading it.
If you still can’t install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap [Device] Storage.
- Find the update in the list of apps.
- Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Software Update and download the latest update.
If you don’t see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device using a Mac or using iTunes.
Aaargh. I capitulated and downgraded to 26.4. Had I been patient, I’d have been spared the idiotic translucent fonts, the wasted processing power needed to form those silly icons, and the disruption of my trusty iPhone screen. Aaargh, I say again.
I am unable to do the upgrade from the computer
it’s forcing me to use the actual phone
The computer tells me the phone is up to date at 18.7.2
13 Mini
I was able to do exactly one upgrade with the phone last year which was very cool. Alas, no more.
Off to delete some stuff I guess
Do you have iOS beta updates enabled? If so, turn them off, and you should see the 18.7.7 update.
I was consistently getting errors updating to 18.7.7 on my wife’s iPhone XS, both over wifi and from a connected Mac. I tried all the suggested fixes.
Last night I figured I’d try one more time on the phone, and this time it worked. So I suspect there really was a signing error for some versions of the installer that Apple fixed.
I do not. Once 26 came out, I guess the ability to upgrade via computer was pulled. That’s the only upgrade I see unless I go directly to the option on the phone.
Haven’t tried iMazing yet but I suspect it’s the same (it was for the earlier 18.x updates)
18.7.7 is OTA update only
Interesting! And disappointing. I didn’t know they could designate them in a way that locks out other methods.
Disappointing because they need a large amount of free space to do their thing.
Is that documented anywhere, or is that simply what people have been experiencing?
(No disrespect intended by the question. I’m just wondering if it’s a bug or if it’s policy.)
