Hello: I have one Mac that still has Mojave. I have iData Pro on it. The same app was Quickdex years ago. Is there a replacement to use for newer Mac OS? Thank you.
I’m using iData Pro with Catalina. I’ve had it for years and was always fond of the application. Fast. Simple. Not sure if it will work on more recent versions of the OS though. Also not sure what I’m going to do with all my iData database files.
macOS Version - App Name
10.10 thru 10.12 - iData Pro 5.0.01
10.13 thru 10.15 - iData Pro 5.1.01
11.0 thru 11.6 - iData Pro 5.2.02
12.0 thru 13.2 - iData Pro 5.3.02
12.0 thru 13.3 - iData Pro 5.4.05

Quickdex lover here! If I remember right, iData saves data in text files. You can easily manipulate them in Excel or BBEdit or such and suck them into another database.
Yes, they can be exported. Excel is a bad tool as a database though and I’m not sure what I would use that didn’t require a lengthy learning curve.
I started with Quickdex too but when iData was retired I moved all the databases to FileMaker because that is what I am using professionally. It’s a big step up in cost and complexity though. The availability of FileMaker Go makes your databases accessible (if not functionally editable) on iOS and iPadOS. I use Go a great deal for my custom solutions.
I looked at lightweight database apps but never found anything that I really liked and nothing that had the class of iData.
Spreadsheets would be the last thing I would use.
What kind of data do you have and how do you use it?
I have been working to port my databases to Tap Forms, as it is available for Mac and iOS. haven’t mastered it yet, but may be worth a look
iData Pro 5.4.05 works for me with macOS 15.4. Why do you need a replacement?
Shameles plug:
Have a look at EagleData https://eaglesoft.de/eagle/eagledata.html
I admit that it maybe not the most pretty software, but it´s free :-)
If you can export your data as a csv-file, then EagleData should be able to import it.
I’ll take a look. Yes, iData supports CSV exports.
@sgtaylor5: The link quoted above has a typo (extra https)…
The functional link is iData Pro 5 Index
thank you for the correction.
