Advice re: Catalina Update

I have a 2019 iMac with a non-current version of Catalina.
Due to application compatability issues, most of the time I am booted into Mojave via an external SSD (SamsungT7, very snappy btw).
I would like to update Catalina to the latest version but I am concerned it might update the firmware in a manner that would no longer allow me to boot from Mojave/SSD. Is this concern unreasonable?

Advice appreciated,
Peter Donlevy

I have not heard of any firmware updates that would prevent Mojave from booting. If your Mac came with or ran Mojave in the past, it should be able to continue to do so AFAIK.
