I’ve always been suspicious of clamshell mode because of heat buildup—it just seems like a bad idea for 95% of usage.

That concern is not unreasonable, but as somebody who has been using a clamshell setup for well over a decade with various Macs, I can just tell you that I have never once suffered a heat issue with any of my clamshell Macs.

@ace Glad to see the community has provide some useful data to you. I was just going to add my two cents regarding clamshell mode, but no need.

I posted about my experience with the LG display. To summarize, I’ve found not functional differences between the LG and the Apple Studio Display and for the money, you can almost purchase two of the LGs for the cost of a single Apple. And the reliability of the LGs is on par with the Apple, though I have 5x as many Apples installed (30 vs 6).
