I have been using a Mac since 1986 when I got my first Mac which was a Mac Plus. At the time I was a part time lecturer in behavioral psychology and in research methods and statistics. I incorporated the computer into my courses immediately.

In 1999 I discovered TidBITS, and I’ve been reading it ever since. It’s been an important part of my Mac-related life ever since.

As a musician I found the computer especially useful for writing out tunes for my band. It was rather awkward at first, but eventually abc notation wa invented. This is a way of representing music in a plain text file. An abc reader can display it as standard musical notation, and an also play it.

By now I’ve written out over 400 fiddle tunes that are played in northern New England. I have put them in a website at https://fiddle-tunes.nhcountrydance.com/. The website is in a bad state of repair right now but I have a revised and vastly improved website nearly ready to go. It’s been delayed because the software I’m using isn’t completely compatible with some of the music software, so I’ve been writing more and more of it myself - which isn’t helped by the fact that I’ve found that I really enjoy writing out HTML and CSS code and seeing it turn into a website! Next I have to learn JavaScript!
