Why does Ethernet connection to Internet not take over when Wi-Fi is turned off?

M1 Mac Studio, OS 12.7.1

Connected to switch via 1000Base-T Ethernet – all tests show a live connection.

But if I switch off Wi-Fi, I lose both Internet and local network connectivity. Why?

Or putting it another way, why won’t the Mac use Ethernet (for a faster connection)?

Do you have Ethernet at the top of the connections list in Network settings?

Had the same issue a while ago – for some reason Ethernet had made itself Inactive when using wifi. Fix was:

System Settings > Network > Ethernet > Make Active (at bottom of list).

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve sorted it: the DHCP source was incorrectly set. Having set it to “Manual”, I now have full-speed Ethernet.
