I thought of another reason for small phone while in the garden yesterday, and it’s only half jokingly: I would have to buy new pants!
The iPhone 13 Mini Apple lets me use is in an otterbox defender case and already takes 2 hands to stuff into/pull out of the mobile phone pockets on garden and other work pants I wear daily.
So yeah it’s kind of a funny aspect but also, yeah, I wouldn’t carry a larger device in a back pocket, it would hinder my activities in a ‘normal’ front pocket, I wouldn’t carry it on a belt holder. I’d probably just leave it behind. I usually carry Mini when out to document garden works and in case of need in emergency assistance need so the latter isn’t so good. Maybe carry it bouncing around in a Cargo Pocket on the leg. Hm, the iPhone 18 Cargo Pro. In Camo. Built in screwdrivers and pruning shears…
This is my reason. When I had the XR, all my jeans ended up with holes getting worn in the middle of the pocket I kept it in. Since replacing it with the 13 mini I no longer get holes in my jeans pockets. I think the answer to the battery issue is to make the phone a little thicker instead of a super-thin phone with an add-on battery like the 17 Air. That is, a mini-sized phone that’s a couple of mm thicker would be ideal (it would also make the camera bump less intrusive).
If you use a case for your iPhone, removing the case makes the phone smaller and gives it a whole new feel. On the other hand, a bare iPhone is more slippery so my fingers slip into the wrong place more easily.
My old iPhone 13 Mini went wonky or I would still have it. My Number One use of an iPhone is to listen to podcasts or books, like an old-fashioned MP3 player. The bigger phones just weigh down my track pants; I finally bought a cross-body phone pouch lest I embarrass myself one day.
Bummer. I think Audible will sync books to watch, though I always carry my phone, so I’ve never bothered to try it.
Surely there must be a third party app that would let you download audio files to it? (It wouldn’t work with proprietary formats like Audible, but podcasts and recordings should work.)
