On rare occasions (like maybe once every three days-ish?), I’ll hear a sound from my Mac that is three quick taps in a row. Sounds like a woodpecker at 100 yards. It may happen when I’m reading this forum, but I can’t correlate it with anything I see on Discourse. There is no notification, or visual change of any sort I can see on the screen. Any ideas?
Let the woodpecker out? Sorry…this sounds like a machine specific issue. What Mac do you have?
Oh, maybe I just need to open the lid on my M1 MacBook Pro?
That’s running in clamshell mode, attached to twin LG 27" monitors via a CalDigit TB4 hub.
Can’t hurt to try…
Not the fans? Not the Speakers? Can’t think of any other moving parts on a MacBook that would make a sound. Some odd audio process, or notification? It is weird.
Yeah, not mechanical. Definitely an audio alert of some sort coming through the speakers. No variation at all, always just “tap-tap-tap”. I’m sure you’re right that it’s something unique to something in my mix of running processes. I was just asking here in case someone else had heard something like it and figured out what it was.
I found it! It was the “New Message” notification coming from a Slack channel I have open on a secondary space (desktop).
Good sleuthing!
I recently had a couple of web sites that had somehow inserted themselves into my Notification chain, and after deletion, somehow repeatedly reinserted themselves. Don’t know how I finally got rid of them.
