Voicemail alerts showing on iPad

Since the recent pad OS update, I’ve been getting alerts for “voicemail“ messages that show up on my iPad. They do not correspond with any calls that I’ve received on my phone and do not have any other indication that they are linked to something other than showing a phone number. I think this is some attempted spam since these numbers do not even show up on my recent mails or even potential spam.

Is there a way to block these? This seems somewhat different than other instances in that it only shows up on my iPad and does not show up at all on my phone. They only show up on the lock screen and I’ve taken a picture of one to show what is going on. Not even sure how they are coming through the Phone app and if I am able to block them.

Do you have a cellular iPad? If so, the messages could be spammers hitting the phone number associated with your iPad’s SIM card.

Actually, I have a work iPad that is cellular, but I have the cell turned off unless I am at work. I didn’t think of that so that’s a good idea. I will go to the settings on that iPad and change it so I can block spam easier and see if that changes these alerts.
