Using a temporary machine

I need to send my MBP out for repair. I’m trying to setup my 2008 unibody as a backup as it will be 3-5 days and I can’t go that long on mobile devices.

I was originally going to read email on the servers but figured I can do IMAP setup on the old machine (which I JUST reformatted a couple of months ago).

Any gotchas to this? I know the “On My Mac” email won’t be available. I do have backups on an external drive (not Time Machine) and will be accessing my data there.

If you’re using IMAP, which nearly everyone really, really should be, then there’s nothing to do apart from configuring the account in Mail or whatever client you use. Email will then just work. I do this all the time to check out new email apps.
