one for the Product Updates posts…
The Universal Hint System has long supported stand-alone client applications, but the last available version for Mac OS X was version 5 for Snow Leopard! It was a PowerPC application that was never upgraded.
until now…
The Readers page lists the Mac version as for macOS 13 Ventura or higher, but the free trial download is version 6.0 and requires Sonoma.
They have a new license policy:
- License works for Windows and macOS versions
- License is either $14.95 for “1 year of free updates” or $24.95 for 3 years. (For comparison, the license to version 5 cost $20 in 2002)
- If you have an old license (version 5 from 2002!) then you can upgrade for $9.95 for one year, or $19.95 for 3 years.
But the order form says:
You may select between 1- and 3-year update plans. Either option gives you free updates to the UHS Reader you buy and to our collection of hints for the period you choose.
So does that mean the reader only can download new hints files while licensed? can only open hints files at all while licensed?
