Teams Notifications

I’m wondering if anyone else is seeing this issue with the Microsoft Teams notification sound:

Originally Teams had its own notification sound. Then after an update, it started using the macOS notification “tri-tone” alert, which I find too distracting. There was no way to fix it.

So then Teams added a setting: “Use Teams sound for notifications instead of the OS alert sound”. That fixed the problem…

…until the most recent Teams update (which I think also added a Teams menubar icon). Now it is using the macOS alert sound even when this setting is checked.

I just discovered that it does work if you turn off “Play sound for notification” for Teams in System Settings. This implies that the macOS alert sound was overriding the Teams sound.

In my experience you are lucky to get Teams to work reliably under macOS. It seems every time I try to use it there is some obstacle.

Safari doesn’t work with Teams invitation links and I have to copy and paste the link into Microsoft Edge. Edge automatically starts the Teams app but usually this does not let me join and I have close it to join within Edge (initially Edge briefly displays a choice of joining in the browser but opens the Teams app before I can select it ).

The user controls seem to change with every update. And often the app demands an update before it allows me to join a meeting.

All this means that, to join an important business meeting, I have to do a trial meeting with my son to make sure Teams is likely to work.

… but thank you for the tip about notifications.
