(SOLVED! See below.) One reason I migrated much of my work to the Edge browser on the Mac is that it played nicely with MacOS transformations—mainly, the automatically generated smart quotes (as I type).
All of a sudden, that has stopped working—specifically in (don’t laugh) Blogger. Not related to any upgrade in the OS or Edge itself, far as I can tell. And transformations still work in Blogger on, for instance, Chrome.
After painstakingly turning off one extension after another, I’ve figured out it’s the Grammarly browser plug-in that was preventing my quotes from being smartened. (Go figure.)
I have Grammarly installed at the OS level, so I’ve turned off the extension.
Thanks for the update, Charlie! It’ll be a good thing to be aware of for the future, and one of the reasons I appreciate coming here and browsing through the topics - sometimes something will happen in the future and I’ll think back to “I remember seeing that”, and then it’s easier to resolve the issue.
“Other spellcheckers (including your default spellchecker) get deactivated while you are using Grammarly, so that there is no confusion between the different spellcheckers’ underlines and highlights.”
