(The XL in this model number only stands for two more included toners)
Scanning can be done from within the AirPrint driver, a button launches Apple’s Image Capture software, which has everything you need to scan.
After each scan, I get a new entry in a separate “Scan Results” window, with each additional page added to the current scan increasing the number next to the entry.
I closed the Scan Results window, but I can’t get it back. Restarting Image Capture doesn’t help. (Sonoma 14.7.x) Alternatively, I could use the Brother iPrint & Scan software, but it looks like a very elaborate step-by-step guided version to help new users. I haven’t tried it.
How do I get the “Scan Results” window back? It would help me to see my progress when scanning several multi-page documents.
Try launching Preview, then under FILE menu look for your scanner name with something like Import from Brother scanner.
That will bring up a window with pre-scan options. There is a simple mode and more detailed mode.
Choose your options of Bitmap, Greyscale or Colour, as well as output types, and file resolution options.
I’ve used the Brother software on a different MFC device. It works, but just for basic functionality. I don’t think there’s going to be much advantage over Image Capture, although you might prefer the UI.
Personally, I would recommend thrid-party scanner software.
VueScan is very popular and supports your DCP-L2627DWXL. I’d download a copy (which will run in a “trial” mode, creating watermarks on the scans) and consider buying a license (which includes one year of updates) if it works well for you. The $25 basic edition doesn’t support your document feeder, so I’d recommend the $50 standard edition, if you find (via the trial) that you like it.
My preferred software is Silverfast. This is a higher-end package (and more expensive) that has a lot of features aimed at users scanning photos. Unfortunately, they don’t support any Brother models, so that’s not an option for you.
Thanks for the answers. I’m aware about the other options, but my question is actually more about why Image Capture has a window for results that is gone for good once you close it.
Our scanning tasks still work, we can do in a pretty straight forward way what I need to do.
You may say this is an academic question, it works, so what does he want? It’s curiosity.
I also wonder how much any other scanning softwares rely on macOS’s scanning API. Image Capture probably uses the same API as the scanning functions from within Preview. Image Capture is only a 3.1 MB file, this is only a skin or interface to call other functions, even Preview with it’s many capabilities has only 9.6 MB.
