Safari vs Facebook

Is anybody seeing an issue with Facebook using Safari?

I’m using Sonoma with Safari 17.6 and today I started receiving this warning:

Learn more takes you to a fairly useless Facebook support page saying Safari is supported - complete with a link to Safari - Apple

What happens if you disable extensions, load in a private window, or create a new Profile (with extensions disabled) and try to load in that?

It’s a little hard to tell as it’s not on every opening - it’s sporadic. I did load a new extension a couple of days ago so I’ve turned it off to try, but it was working without issue until this morning.

Update: definitely not this extension, it’s off and I just got the message again. I’ll try to remember to use private windows for a while.

Seems I’m not the only one and it’s not only Safari, Firefox people complaining of the same issue - presumedly a Facebook issue.

And I’ve seen people with Chrome complaining too.

This a malware pop-up, using Javascript. Restart your Mac and it will disappear.

Restarting did not work.

The “best experience” wording doesn’t seem to indicate it’s required. Maybe just dismiss and ignore it?

I am getting the same message on my iPad Air 5. I am running 17.xx. This just started last week. I don’t plan to upgrade to 18. Until I am ready.

Check Safari > Settings > Websites > Popup Windows and Notifications. Delete anything you don’t recognize.
