Quick Look audio and Preview broken

cMP3,1 - 16G ram, 2x 3G Xeon, QC. - SSD boot. 10.13.6.
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB.

Suddenly, QuickLook/Preview isn’t working in Finder for jpg or flac/mp3/ALAC.
But it was last week.
No new software, hardware, update.
I turned off Spotlight scanning.
Only change was I changed the LAN name.
Ran DU and Onyx. Reset pRam.
No change. Deleted caches for QuickLook. N/C.
Safe boot. N/C.
It is connected to the interweb via an unmanaged tpLink switch.
Swapped ports and CAT5s.
But that shouldn’t effect the QuickLook issue.
This is 95% of the time idling as a media server, but every now and then …

Any idea for a fix?

Can you please expand “cMP3,1” to something others will recognize?

Surely. cMP3,1 is a classic MacPro3,1 early 2008 Intel Xeon 5400 QuadCore.
It is supported until 10.11.6, but I ran the dosdude patcher to bring it to High Sierra (10.13.6)

I did give up on a simple fix after running thru ram, boot (SSD) drive and some other stuff.
Though not fun to do it again and rather time-consuming, I nuked & paved and re-installed the dosdude patch. All is back to normal. Guess it just had a bad day.
I should have checked logs before I did so, on the chance I might have found something that caused the slow-down and fail of QuickLook. But alas …

I have not installed some of the apps and exts that I felt were also slowing it down, since it is a hack. Firefox, for instance, I unsync’d it from my daily driver so that I could minimize the exts that weren’t needed for the server.

Been keeping my eye out for a reasonable used Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 4G so that I might upgrade again to Monterey or Ventura. For no special reason other than I rather not have to remember the differences between different OSs on different Macs I have … and/or clients have.
