Fat Cat Software has released PowerPhotos 3.0, a major update for the longstanding Photos library manager that introduces batch photo metadata editing. PowerPhotos works with Apple’s Photos app, allowing you to manage multiple libraries, merge libraries, find and delete duplicate photos, and more. The new keyboard-centric metadata editing feature enables quick editing of photo titles, keywords, and captions, and pressing Tab navigates to the next photo. You can also modify existing metadata by selecting a group of photos to batch edit them simultaneously.
PowerPhotos 3 adds a new search indexing engine that enables you to perform complex searches on a wide range of criteria, including several not supported by Photos, such as file size, pixel dimensions, video duration, and more. The new version also upgrades the photo browser to add support for moving photos between albums, deleting photos, and more. It uses its own in-window photo viewer instead of relying on the system’s Quick Look window. Additionally, it enables you to select multiple libraries in the library list at a time and improves Undo support.
Version 3.0.1 was issued to address a crash that could occur when performing certain album copies between libraries and improve memory usage when applying extensive batch metadata edits.
Normally priced at $39.95, Fat Cat is offering a 10% discount on PowerPhotos 3 through 16 May 2025 to celebrate its 10th anniversary (and the 20th anniversary of its predecessor, iPhoto Library Manager). Owners of previous licenses of PowerPhotos or iPhoto Library Manager can upgrade to PowerPhotos 3 for $19.95 (or $17.95 through 16 May 2025).
